Materials Manager

The Materials Manager oversees and executes all aspects of materials management and shipping/receiving operations.

Your Role

The Materials Manager / Shipping & Receiving Specialist oversees and executes all aspects of materials management and shipping/receiving operations. This role requires a strong understanding of logistics, inventory control, and shipping procedures. In this role, you will work closely with various departments to ensure efficient and timely movement of materials throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate stock levels and minimize excess inventory.
  • Assist in requesting quotes from vendors and placing purchase orders.
  • Participate in audits and inventory counts to verify accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Regularly update lead times and order levels in the ERP system to ensure accurate planning and forecasting.
  • Receive, process, and verify incoming shipments in the ERP system and stock items in appropriate totes/bins.
  • Fulfills production work orders by pulling inventory based on the appropriate Bill of Materials and delivering it to the production area
  • Maintains stocking areas to accommodate adjusting volumes and storage requirements.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in stocking and material handling processes.
  • Prepares and processes outgoing shipments to customers and field service teams.
  • Processes shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of shipping documents, receiving receipts, shipping charges, HS codes, taxes, and duties against open orders in the ERP system.
  • Resolves shipment issues by coordinating with carriers.
  • Routes shipments to the proper department, warehouse section, or stockroom.
  • Maintains and organizes shipping/receiving records, files, and data in the ERP system.
  • Interfaces with logistic service providers as required.
  • Orders and maintains shipping supplies.
  • Participate in the approval process of invoices.
  • Follows company procedures for engineering change notices and non-conforming materials and generates reports.
  • Ensures incoming and outgoing shipments are efficiently processed while targeting cost reduction.

Needed Experience

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field preferred 
  • Proven experience in inventory control and logistics.
  • A basic understanding of an ERP system is required.

Needed Skills

  • Ability to concentrate in a busy work environment and be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work successfully independently and in a team environment.
  • Safely and securely handle the product with a forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Mathematical skills, including calculating percentages, area, circumference, volume, and conversion of units of measure and weights.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs from the floor or table height to chest height using proper lifting techniques
  • Must be able to sit and or stand for an 8-to-10-hour shift.
  • Capable of obtaining a forklift license.
